Our story

Meet Mevroutjie

Mevroutjie spent a lifetime in the classroom teaching Afrikaans to English-speaking South Africans. She knows exactly where learners freeze — the verbs, the word order, the rules that seem to break themselves — and she has a song for almost every one of them.

Vra Mevroutjie takes everything she learned about how a second-language brain remembers, and turns it into a warm, modern app. Same teacher, same patience — now in your pocket.

Why we exist

Every South African learner deserves to feel capable in Afrikaans

Too many learners decide early on that they're “just bad at Afrikaans”. They're not — they were simply taught in a way that didn't fit how memory works. We're here to change that: to make the moment grammar finally clicks feel less like a test and more like a song you can't get out of your head.

Warmth first

Learning a language is vulnerable. Mevroutjie never makes you feel small — she meets every wrong answer with encouragement.

Memory by design

Melody, mnemonics, colour-coding and spaced practice aren't gimmicks — they're how the brain actually holds onto a rule.

Made for here

Built for South African classrooms and homes, by South Africans, aligned to the curriculum learners are actually sitting.

Behind the app

A teacher and a tech studio

The grammar, the songs and the teaching sequence all come from Mevroutjie herself — the subject-matter expert. The app is built and operated by EduAv Proprietary Limited, a South African education-technology studio, with a shared goal: put a brilliant, patient Afrikaans teacher in reach of every learner who needs one.
